New CDSS Board Takes Organization in Shambles

After two long years of chaos, the College Democrats at Sacramento State University are finally emerging from the wreckage left by former president, Austin Busch-Estrada, and his toxic leadership. Under Busch-Estrada's misguided presidency, the once-promising student organization was nearly driven into the ground, plagued by dysfunction, abuse, and scandal.

For far too long, the College Democrats were forced to endure the fallout of Busch-Estrada’s divisive and damaging actions. Numerous former board members have reported the abusive, discriminatory behavior that defined his presidency. Busch-Estrada’s reign wasn’t just marked by incompetence—it was marred by outright hostility, including shocking recordings where he was heard degrading queer individuals and quoting Adolf Hitler. This wasn't leadership; this was tyranny in disguise.

In a desperate attempt to salvage his crumbling control, Busch-Estrada passed the reins to a group of loyalists, but their leadership only deepened the crisis. Under their watch, the organization spiraled further, its credibility and influence fading into irrelevance. It became clear that the remnants of Busch-Estrada’s regime were no more than a façade of authority, wielding as much power as a petty tyrant—a hollow shell hiding behind empty threats and intimidation.

But the students of Sacramento State were not fooled. They refused to stand by while a small group of self-serving individuals sabotaged their futures. Through relentless demands for change, the students made their voices heard, rejecting the toxic influence of the Busch-Estrada loyalists. And now, the College Democrats are finally taking back control.

Enter the new leadership team: Christian Hernandez-Hunter as President, Sabrina Charleston as Vice President, and Nikita Akhumov as Executive Director. This team is a breath of fresh air after the stifling grip of the previous administration. With their leadership, the College Democrats are committed to restoring integrity and accountability, building a future where the organization truly serves the students, not the ego of a few.

The newly formed Investigatory Committee will be a critical part of this process. Over the coming weeks, they will dig into the troubling behavior of the past board and hold those responsible for their abuse of power accountable. No stone will be left unturned as the College Democrats work to ensure that the mistakes of the past will never be repeated.

This is not just about rebuilding; it's about reclaiming what was lost and setting a new course for the future. With Christian Hernandez-Hunter, Sabrina Charleston, and Nikita Akhumov at the helm, the College Democrats at Sac State are poised to restore the organization to its rightful place as a true force for progress on campus. The days of corruption, intimidation, and failure are over.

The College Democrats have spoken. The era of disgraced Austin Busch-Estrada is finished. It’s time to move forward.
