In a striking display of leadership, Christian Hernandez-Hunter has returned to helm the College Democrats, signing two decisive executive orders aimed at revitalizing an organization that had fallen into disarray. Faced with dwindling membership, fractured leadership, and allegations of misconduct, Hernandez-Hunter has made it clear: this is a new era. Hernandez-Hunter resigned due to disgraced former CDSS President and Lisa Kaplan communication Director Austin Busch-Estrada abusive behavior that is currently under review for internal investigations with a public report expected to be released in the coming month. Bush-Estrada had been criticized for his alleged rhetoric. In December 2024 recordings with of Bush-Estrada surfaced of him praising notorious dictator, Adolf Hitler, and making misogynistic and homophobic comments. (Source instagram Csus_Accountability)
A Movement in Crisis
Once a formidable force in student activism, the College Democrats had lost its way. Internal discord, allegations of negligence, racism and homophobia and a lack of clear direction left the organization struggling to remain relevant. Disillusionment set in, and trust eroded. Without strong leadership, the club risked fading into obscurity. Membership had hemorrhaged and had fallen to historic lows under the previous three executive boards.
That was until Christian Hernandez-Hunter took charge. Determined to steer the organization back on course, he wasted no time implementing a series of sweeping reforms to restore its credibility and purpose.
Executive Orders: A Framework for Reform
In his first official act, Hernandez-Hunter signed an executive presidential order establishing a Chief Operating Officer (COO) position—an unprecedented move designed to introduce stability and operational oversight. The new role is tasked with ensuring efficiency, fostering accountability. Mr. Hernandez-Hunter then signed his second Presidential executive order that focused the priorities on specific issues pertaining to on campus issues.
Combating sexual assault and harassment on campus
Advocating for and protecting vulnerable communities
Holding campus administrators accountable for their policies and decisions
“The College Democrats must once again be a beacon of justice and advocacy,” said Hernandez-Hunter. “These initiatives represent our unwavering commitment to fighting for students and ensuring our voices are heard.”
The COMPNOW Commission: Reckoning with the Past
In a dramatic third order, Hernandez-Hunter established the Commission for Oversight, Management, Preservation of Organizational Welfare (COMPNOW). This investigatory body will scrutinize allegations of illegal and discriminatory actions under the previous executive board, ensuring accountability and institutional integrity moving forward.
“Trust is built through transparency,” Hernandez-Hunter remarked. “We must confront the mistakes of the past to move forward with strength and conviction.”
The commission will conduct a thorough review of past leadership’s misconduct, presenting findings and recommending systemic safeguards to prevent further ethical breaches.
The Road to Redemption
With these bold initiatives, Hernandez-Hunter has signaled an unflinching commitment to reclaiming the College Democrats' standing as a vital political force on campus. His leadership marks the dawn of a transformative period, one defined by action, advocacy, and accountability.
As students watch with cautious optimism, the question remains: can the College Democrats truly rise from the ashes? One thing is clear—under Christian Hernandez-Hunter’s command, the fight for a stronger, more principled organization has only just begun.
